Job Description

The Director of Business Development will be responsible for identifying and cultivating new strategic alliances and managing existing ones. The position will report directly to the VP of Business Development and will work in a collaborative environment with our business development team to maximize revenue opportunities and optimize profits. The individual will increase the company's market share by building strategic relationships in a highlysegmented marketplace comprised of brokers, Third Party Administrators (TPA's) etc. The Director of Business Development will manage relationships with other staff functions to ensure appropriate resources are available and focused to support selling objectives. This position is full Time, salaried and exempt.


  • Drive new business and increase revenue
  • Cultivate and maintain effective business relationships with executive decision makers in large accounts
  • Director owns revenue generation for assigned products
  • Understand the products and systems of strategic partners
  • Develop and implement strategic sales plans and forecasts to achieve corporate objectives for products and services
  • Develop and implement strategic sales plans to accommodate corporate goals
  • Direct sales forecasting activities and set performance goals accordingly
  • Analyze and control expenditures of division to conform to budgetary requirements
  • Assist marketing group in monitoring competitor products, sales and marketing activities
  • Establish and maintain relationships with industry influencers and key strategic partners
  • Manage RFP process for assigned products
  • Represent company at industry meetings/conferences to promote products
  • Maintain relationships and negotiate and close business opportunities
  • Provide monthly forecast reports showing sales volume and potential sales
  • Review and analyze individual sales performance against sales goals and strategic plan
  • Direct prospective advisor/client/strategic partner visits, prepare pricing and create sales presentations
  • Apply research insights and to provide compelling advertising solutions based on the companys business strengths.
  • Develop skill set and manage workflow for internal support team member
  • Develop knowledge of all business areas and products offered
  • Meet or exceed required level of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) in all measured areas
  • Complete other projects as assigned by Vice President or President


The ideal candidate would have/be:

  • Dynamic, highenergy individual with proven organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to create very strong relationship building skills with excellent presentation, verbal and written communication skills
  • Skilled at listening and influencing the conversation
  • Ability to ensure that key stakeholders within the company receive all relevant sales, customer, and product information during the product development and sales process
  • Professional and customer oriented
  • Ability to meet or exceed company annual sales goals
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work on various projects with different teams simultaneously with variable and flexible schedules
  • A proven track record of successfully landing large strategic accounts and sustaining the business over several years.
  • Ability to plan and conduct various kinds of meetings
  • Ability to resolve problems quickly and creatively

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • 5 to 10 years of marketing and sales experience with consumer products
  • Demonstrated sales experience in employee benefit plans
  • Oral and written communication skills
  • Consultative selling skills
  • Ability to understand and apply market intelligence to sales strategy
  • High level of financial and business acumen
  • Staff consulting and relationship building skills
  • Ability to use technology and analysis tools (Excel, Outlook, web, databases)
  • Executive presence to influence senior decisionmakers
  • Knowledge of advertising industry

Physical Requirements -  This position requires the employee to be seated the majority of the work time. Presentations are a large part of the position where standing could be for extended periods of time.

Travel Requirements - This position is frequently out of the office and requires overnight travel several times during the year.
